Centennial Commission Selects Official Commemoration Coin

News / Virgin Islands / March 7, 2017

A coin commemorating the territory’s 100th transfer from Denmark to the U.S. has been selected as the Official Virgin Islands Transfer Centennial Coin by the V.I. Transfer Centennial Commission, 340 Group, LLC, the coin’s creator, announced Monday.

According to the release, the coin, a minted 39mm antique brass commemorative item, celebrates and honors the 100th Anniversary of the Transfer of the islands from Denmark to the United States of America. The coin features a dark blue outer ring which reads United States Virgin Islands Centennial 1917 – 2017; a light blue inner ring which reads St. John, St. Thomas, St. Croix, Water Island and an inner core which features the American, Danish and U.S. Virgin Islands flags, an outline of the three islands with 100 as the background.

“We are pleased that the Virgin Islands Transfer Centennial Commission selected our commemorative coin for presentation to the Honorable Judge Wilma Lewis during the recent visit of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayer,” said 340 Group, LLC managing partner Austin Callwood. “We are proud to participate in this historic milestone that honors the history of our island territory.”

“We hope that those who want to mark this historic occasion with a keepsake will visit our website to purchase the centennial coins or other commemoratives that celebrate the U.S. Virgin Islands,” Mr. Callwood added.

The 340 Group principals and consultants are all Virgin Islanders with extensive experience managing private, government, and civic organizations, according to the release. With over 45 years of combined experiences in strategic planning – in both large corporate settings, non-profit and small business operations – the group also has expertise in the areas of project management, contract negotiation and administration, mentoring, event planning, budget forecasting, as well as program oversight, career development, and training, it added.

Since 2000, members of the group have successfully mentored and assisted Virgin Island students applying to colleges and universities. Through their efforts more than $4.2 million in scholarships were awarded to local students to further their personal and professional development. The group endeavors to maintain a positive image of the Virgin Islands in the Washington DC Metro area.

The 340 Group is currently providing planning  and logistics support to the EL GALEÓN ANDALUCÍA while it is docked in Charlotte Amalie. Their planning include coordinating events, to what will be the first major international visitor and attraction event for the VI Centennial Transfer Commission and the Department of Tourism — to commemorate the 100th (10 Karat Diamond) Anniversary of the Transfer from the Kingdom of Denmark to the United States of America.
