St. Patrick’s Day Parade Takes Over Christiansted Town Saturday; Parking Restrictions Announced

Community Center / Entertainment / Virgin Islands / March 17, 2017

ST. CROIX — In anticipation of the 48th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, to be held tomorrow, the Virgin Islands Police Department has issued a press release stating street closings and parking restrictions in Christiansted.

Those who are planning on participating in the parade are advised that effective 5:00 a.m. Saturday, there will be no parking on King Street and Hospital Street, and along Company Street. Patrons to the parade are warned that vehicles found violating these restrictions will be ticketed and/or towed at the owner’s expense.

The parade starts out at Fort Christiansvaern, heading west up Company Street, turning at Times Square and heading east down King Street in Christiansted..  The annual celebration of Irish culture has gained acclaim on St Croix over the years, with hundreds of participants reveling to the music of local bands and DJs.  The parade’s reputation has even spanned across islands, bringing participants from sister islands St. Thomas and St. John.  Last year’s parade saw an abundance of participants who were out enjoying the activities and food, socializing, and celebrating the Irish culture with a touch of Virgin Island flare.

Participants in this year’s parade are reminded to stay safe, adhere to the parking restrictions and other laws, and to have fun.

Correction: A previous version of this story stated that the parade starts at Time Square, however, it starts at Fort Christiansvaern, heading west up Company Street, turning at Times Square and heading east down King Street in Christiansted. The story has been updated to reflect the correction information.

I have been writing for as long as I can remember. For me writing is a love beyond definition and explanation. I do it because of a love for the art, because everyone has a story, and every story is worth being told. My inspiration comes from observing the people and things around me, sharing ideas with friends and family, my own personal experiences and ways of thinking, and a desire to continuously learn and gain understanding.
