ST. THOMAS — Police on Thursday arrested and charged a woman on multiple criminal counts for allegedly holding a man hostage on the porch of her home, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced on Friday.
According to Mr. Dratte, Xiomara Batista, above, age 40, was observed on video holding a male victim against his will with a firearm on the porch of her residence on Thursday.
Ms. Batista was charged with false imprisonment, kidnapping for ransom, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, carrying a firearm openly or concealed, and evidence or intent to commit a crime.
Unable to make bail of $140,000, Ms. Batista was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections.
Police also arrested a Bronx New York woman, 56-year-old Violet Yvonne Babrow, on Wednesday after finding a “considerable amount” of marijuana on her person.
According to Mr. Dratte, a V.I.P.D. investigator made contact with Ms. Babrow while in the process of serving a search warrant at her family’s residence in the Hospital Ground area, in St. Thomas. She was taken into custody at about 6:00 p.m. the same day, placed under arrest and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Unable to make bail of $10,000, Ms. Babrow was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending her advise-of-rights hearing.
