Crime / News / Virgin Islands / May 31, 2017

ST. CROIX — Police on Tuesday arrested two men on authorized weapon charges in the vicinity of Calquhoun, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced Wednesday.

According to Mr. Dratte, citing a police report, at approximately 9:26 p.m. on Tuesday, V.I.P.D. officers responded to a call from the 911 emergency call center regarding a suspicious Toyota Corolla that drove into a yard in Calquhoun, at which point the headlights were turned off by the occupants.

Upon officers’ arrival to the scene, consent was given by the driver, 21-year-old Akeem Young, to search the suspicious vehicle. Police then moved to search the vehicle and discovered one unlicensed firearm in the engine compartment, and two fully loaded magazines underneath the gear shift, according to Mr. Dratte.

Also in the vehicle was 23-year-old Akilo R. Pilgrim, who was also searched by the V.I.P.D. officers and found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm, according to Mr. Dratte.

Both men were remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending their advise-of-rights hearing, after failing to make bail of $25,000 each, according to Mr. Dratte.
