ST. THOMAS — The V.I.P.D. is seeking the community’s assistance in locating a man who allegedly shot a woman today at about 6:42 p.m.

According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte, the suspect, identified as Richard Ireland, shot the female victim twice in the area of Smart Stop near the Cancryn Bridge. Mr. Ireland was last seen fleeing the area with a firearm, and police are seeking the community’s immediate assistance to help apprehend him.

The victim was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment, however her health status was not known at time of writing.

If you see Mr. Ireland, do not approach him. Instead, you should immediately call 911 or the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211, according to police.
