Woman Arrested And Jailed On Blackmail Charge

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / July 30, 2017

ST. CROIX — A St. Croix woman was arrested on Saturday and charged with blackmail after threatening to accuse a man with whom she had consensual sex of rape, as well as threatening to tell the man’s wife of their sexual relationship if he failed to give her money, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced late Sunday.

Police arrested 23-year-old N’Zinger Makeda Williams at about 1:18 p.m., Saturday. According to Mr. Dratte, citing information provided by detectives on the case, Ms. Williams first blackmailed the male victim on July 22. She threatened to file a police report claiming that she was raped by the victim, and also threatened to tell the victim’s wife of the sexual intercourse.

The victim, wanting to save his marriage and afraid of what would happen if a police report of rape were to be filed against him, continued giving Ms. Williams money, according to Mr. Dratte.

After a while, however, the victim realized that Ms. Williams would continue blackmailing him, so he took courage and told his wife what had taken place, and filed a police report against Ms. Williams.

Unable to make bail of $10,000, Ms. Williams was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending her advisement hearing.
