Personnel Announces Entrance Exams For Police And Corrections Officers

The Division of Personnel in accordance with Virgin Islands Code announced on Tuesday entrance exams for police and corrections officers territory-wide.

According to the release, a candidate must have completed twelve grade, or possess an equivalency certificate such as a GED. A candidate must also possess or be able to obtain a driver’s license. Candidates must be U.S. citizens at least 20 years of age and not have reached his/her 46 birthday. Candidates must successfully pass the civil service written examination, physical agility test, psychological exam, oral board interview, as well as a comprehensive background check, according to the release.

The sign-up deadline is Friday, August 18 at 11:59 p.m., while the examination will be taken on September 18-22.

Interested candidates must sign-up and submit a completed application package online here. Candidates who submit applications prior to August 18 are required to notify the Division of Personnel of any changes in mailing addresses to ensure receipt of confirmed examination notice. The candidate preparation manual for the police officer written examination will be distributed during the week of August 21-25, 2017. Online practice tests that simulate the full length version of the exam are now available for a minimal fee, according to the release. The following candidates will be exempted from sitting the written examination, but are required to meet all other established criteria for qualifications:

  • Persons holding a degree in any field of study (associates and above) from an accredited institution
  • All honorably discharged veterans from any branch of the U.S. armed forces (DD214)
  • National Guardsmen/Air Guard Reserve serving in specialized military police (MP) unit for at least 2 years in good standing
  • Current/former police cadets who successfully completed established police cadet curriculum along with written verification from V.I.P.D. officials.
