Men Arrested After Attempting To Extort 13-Year-Old Of Jewelry, Police Say

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / September 1, 2017

ST. CROIX — Two men in their twenties were arrested on Thursday night after allegedly attempting to extort a 13-year-old minor of her jewelry, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced Friday.

According to Mr. Dratte, the two men, identified as 24-year-old Alexis Rivera, and 20-year-old Dian Benjamin, conspired to commit the crime and threatened the victim with bodily harm not only to herself, but also her family members, if she refused to hand over the jewelry.

Police did not say what time the incident happened, and they did not reveal where the suspects were apprehended. Also not in Mr. Dratte’s release was whether the suspects had stolen the jewelry before the police report was made.

Mr. Rivera and Mr. Benjamin were remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending their advisement hearing, after failing to make bail of $10,000 each.
