HUD Representatives Available To Assist Survivors At Disaster Recovery Centers

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) representatives are available at Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) throughout the territory to answer questions and provide survivors with disaster assistance information, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has announced.

U.S. Virgin Islanders who receive HUD assistance either through public housing or vouchers, and whose homes were damaged may also be eligible to receive FEMA assistance either for temporary rental assistance or to replace personal property.

Seven recovery centers are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The DRCs are at the following locations:

  • St. John
    • Cruz Bay at the U.S. Virgin Islands Legislature, St. John Annex, 1D Cruz Bay
    • Coral Bay at the Town & Country Building, 8-1 Estate Emmaus
  • St. Croix
    • Christiansted at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 38-44 Castle Coakley
    • Christiansted at the Old Post Office Building at Church and Company streets
    • Frederiksted at the Rotary Club West, 40 KA-KD Estate LaGrange
  • St. Thomas
    • Charlotte Amalie at the former Scotiabank, 81 CC&DD Kronsprindsens Gade
    • Charlotte Amalie at Tutu Park Mall, 4605 Tutu Park Mall, Suite 233

HUD through the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) recently announced an extension to its 90-day foreclosure moratorium until March 19, 2018 for Presidentially Declared Major Disaster Areas. HUD also offers help to borrowers through its FHA Resource Center at 800-225-5342.
