V.I. Carnival Set For March 31 Through April 28; Theme Announced

ST. THOMAS — Fresh off of the St. Croix 2017-18 Festival, the VI Carnival Committee announced on Wednesday the dates of the annual event, which starts on March 31 and ends on  April 28. The committee also announced this year’s theme: “Embrace our culture, music, and cuisine for Carnival 2018.”

Here are the announcements the committee has made so far:

V.I. Carnival 2018 Calypsonians to Meet Saturday

The Virgin Islands Carnival Calypso Committee is inviting all calypsonians interested in competing for the 2018 Calypso Monarch title to a meeting scheduled for Saturday, January 20th at 1:00 p.m. in the Carnival Committee’s office located at 34-A-1 Hospital Gade, formerly Mannos Building.

All interested calypsonians can call Buddy Kennings, chairperson of the Calypso Committee, at 340-771-4918, or the Virgin Islands Carnival committee office at 340-776-3112, for more information.

V.I. Carnival 2018 Village Vendor Applications Available

Interested persons are asked to note that applications for the 2018 Virgin Islands Carnival Village booth owners are now available.

All applications should be returned by Friday, February 23.

Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

Names of applicants selected for booth spaces, along with alternates, will be announced via the news media on Tuesday, March 6. Recipients will also be notified via telephone.

A meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 14 for all recipients of booth spaces.

V.I. Carnival Committee Announces the 66th Anniversary Carnival Theme

The winning entry, which was submitted anonymously, is relevant, short and meaningful, the committee said, adding that the theme captures the true essence and exuberance of VI Carnival.

This year’s theme will be used at all V.I. Carnival events and will be posted in the Carnival Booklet.
