ST. THOMAS — A woman who said alcohol consumption had clouded her recollection of an alleged incident that she said occurred on January 28, was arrested on Wednesday for falsely claiming that a police officer had raped her, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced Thursday.
According to Ms. Freeman, after a thorough investigation and viewing of video surveillance footage, it was determined that the version of events of the accuser, 21-year-old Diana Watkins, did not occur.
On Wednesday, after Ms. Watkins was allowed to review video surveillance relative to the alleged incident, she admitted that the officer did not leave the area with her, Ms. Freeman said. She then told investigators that it was a security guard who had struggled with her on the evening of January 28, according to Ms. Freeman. Ms. Watkins then blamed her inconsistent reports of what happened on alcohol consumption.
She was arrested and charged with false reporting, with bail set at $5,000 pending her advisement hearing.
The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with more information about the alleged incident to call the force at 340-774-2211, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-714-9807, or contact Crime Stoppers USVI with your anonymous tip here.
