Dept. Of Education Celebrates ‘Week Of The Young Child’ 2018

Education / Featured / News / Virgin Islands / April 16, 2018

The Virgin Islands Department of Education will hold its annual celebration of the Week of the Young Child at elementary schools across the territory from April 16-20, 2018. The annual activity is sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and celebrates early learning, young children, their teachers and families.

St. Croix Elementary Programs Coordinator Jeselle Cruse-Peter has announced a variety of activities being held at the district’s elementary schools. This year, due to the double session schedule elementary schools in St. Croix are placed on, there will be no annual culminating activity which brings together the district’s youngest learners for a day of fun and community demonstrations. However, throughout the week, community partners, departments and agencies will make presentations to students at the various school sites.

The St. Thomas – St. John District will host a series of in-school activities for students leading up to its Culminating Activity on Friday, April 20 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The District’s primary students will march from the Omar E. Brown, Sr. Fire Station to the Lockhart Elementary School for a day of fun-filled activities.

The 2018 Virgin Islands Week of the Young Child is also sponsored by the United Way of the Virgin Islands. The organization will provide students with backpacks, and school supplies, etc. throughout the Week.
