Positive Guidance VI 7th And 8th Grade Teams Win First Place In Basketball Tournament Held In Florida

ST. CROIX — The Positive Guidance VI 7th and 8th grade basketball teams recently returned from a successful trip to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where both teams won first place in the Youth Basketball of America (YBOA) Mother’s Day Classic Basketball Tournament, held from May 12-13, 2018, a release issued Friday has made known.

The 7th grade team finished pool play with a record of 3-0 with wins over Fort Myers Beastmode (57-44), Jupiter Jaguars (47-41), and Pompano Stars (79-13). The 7th grade team eventually went on to win the 7th grade championship game against Ft. Myers Beastmode by a score of 52-19. The team also placed second in the YBOA Battle at the Spring Jam Tournament held on April 6-8, 2018, in Coral Springs, Florida. The Positive Guidance 7th grade team is currently ranked 21st out of 78 teams in the YBOA Florida Region 7th Grade Division and is projected to be ranked in the top 10 when the rankings are updated.

The Positive Guidance VI 8th grade team had similar results. The team finished pool play with a record of 2-1 with wins over Victory 9th (44-41) and Ft. Myers Beastmode (45-11) and a loss to Victory 8th (48-61). The Positive Guidance team was able to avenge its loss to Victory 8th in the 8th grade championship game prevailing by a score of 51-38.

The teams will now be preparing to compete in the YBOA Florida State Championships to be held in Fort Myers, Florida from June 1-3, 2018, and then on to the YBOA National Championships to be held in Orlando, Florida scheduled for July 9-14, 2018.
