Women’s Coalition’s ‘Women’s Race’ Set For Christiansted On June 3 With Theme Of ‘Peace And Justice’

The Women’s Coalition of St. Croix (WCSC) will host its annual Women Race on Sunday, June 3, in Christiansted with a theme of “Peace and Justice”, according to a release issued Tuesday.

Pre-registration for WCSC’s annual two-mile race for women and girls will began at selected locations on May 21. The Women Race is organized by the V.I. Pace Runners for WCSC.

“This is the first Women Race since hurricanes Irma, Jose and Maria hit. We’re excited to have the Race this year,” says Clema Lewis, WCSC’s executive director. Only women and girls may enter the Race, but fun is had by all at this festive event, as males are on hand to show support and cheer on the Racers, the release said.

Survivors of violence participate in the Women Race every year, proudly demonstrating growth and healing from the trauma of abusive relationships, sexual assault and other crimes. Supporters of all gender identities are welcome to watch and cheer on the Racers as they move through Christiansted.

DJ Myron will keep the crowd moving to great music on and off the race route.

Pre-registration is available through WCSC’s secure online form and at the following locations:

  • WCSC’s Crisis Center – 45 Fisher Street, Christiansted
  • WCSC’s Closet To Closet Thrift Store – 15 Peter’s Rest

In addition, registration tables will be at the following locations on the dates listed below, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon:

1. May 26 th – Cost-U-Less,Kmart – Sunny Isle Shopping Center, Kmart -Sunshine Mall

2. June 2 nd – Cost-U-Less, Kmart-Sunny Isle Shopping Center, Kmart – Sunshine Mall

The pre-registration entry fee is $20.00, and includes a commemorative t-shirt. Registration on race day is $25.00. Girls aged 13 and under can register for $1.00, t-shirt not included.

Schools, organizations, groups and businesses may enter teams in the Women Race. Teams who preregister will receive special certificates, according to the release. The fastest team (minimum of five members) will receive a trophy.

The Mary Mingus Trophy will be awarded to the school with the most participants (minimum of 25 members). Awards will be given to racers in several categories, including presentations to overall winners and top age-group finishers. WCSC’s mission is to support and empower people impacted by violence.
