ST. CROIX — Bus service for John H. Woodson Junior High School students residing in Estate Profit, Estate Harvey and Clifton Hill has been suspended following what the Department of Education (D.O.E.) described as hostile behavior towards the bus driver.
According to D.O.E. Director of Public Relations and Communications Keva D. Muller, the students threw cans and bottles at the bus driver while he was operating the vehicle. The intent of the ruckus, Ms. Muller told the media, was to distract the bus driver while he was operating the school bus. The bus was also thrashed, she said.
In the release issued on Wednesday, D.O.E. said the behavior posed “a serious safety issue for the bus driver and all student passengers.”
The department is planning a parent meeting to address the matter, and a date will be given once details of the planned meeting are set. D.O.E. has asked that students with knowledge of those who participated in the “dangerous behavior” provide information to school administrators.
In the meantime, parents will have the responsibility of transporting their students to school until the matter is resolved.
