‘The Crossover’, A Feature Film Being Produced In USVI, Seeking Local Actors To Join Cast

News / Virgin Islands / June 19, 2018

ST. THOMAS — The Crossover, a feature film to be produced in the U.S Virgin Islands, is searching for talent to join its cast, a release issued Tuesday makes known. With a wide range of characters, there are roles for people of ages (14-50) and all ethnicities. The movie begins production in 2019.

According to the release, casting will be held at the LOC Fellowship Center on Saturday, June 23, from 10:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a headshot or a photo to the audition.

The crossover is a coming of age story that follows the lives of an ensemble cast of teenagers who embark on an adventure at a 4-day survival camp. The campers must come to terms with their real-life problems, while trying to survive the elements, physical challenges, and the other campers on a deserted tropical island.

The film is based on SurvivOR, a teen/young adult camp operating from 2001-2014. Lennox Zamore, a pastor, as a means of character development to transform modern youth, conceived SurvivOR, according to the release. Equipped with only one change of clothes, campers are whisked away by the Boatman across the Caribbean Sea to the remote island of West Cay on which they will had to survive for three days and three nights. SurvivOR included hiking, kayaking, swimming, and learning basic survival skills such as building fires, gathering materials for shelter, and finding and preparing food.

Commenting on the casting announcement, producer and director Laurika Jude said, “We encourage as many people as possible to audition. It doesn’t matter if they have acting experience or if this is their first audition, what we’re looking for is energetic and naturally talented people to bring the characters to life. I attended SurvivOR for many years growing up, and it’s definitely a life changing experience. We’re excited to bring it to the big screen.”

Ms. Jude continued, “The film deals with real life issues such as betrayal, grief, insecurity, and belonging just to name a few. The Crossover explores how these young people have to handle a lot of adult situations and navigate the real world when innocence is lost.”

Ms. Jude and co-director/screenwriter, Nakia Ford — the creative minds behind The Crossover — bring their talents to the unique adventure film. Mr. Zamore joins the team as an executive producer.

In the weeks following the auditions, the production team will begin its search for additional crew members.
