Virgin Islands Children’s Museum Announces Access Program For Low-Income Families

ST. THOMAS — The Virgin Islands Children’s Museum, located in Buccaneer Mall Havensight, announced today that it has joined Museums for All, a signature access program of the Association of Children’s Museums and the Institute of Museum and Library Services to encourage families of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and build lifelong museum habits. According to the release, museums are pillars of the community and inspire creativity and strengthen social connections among people of all ages. This national program enables museums to open their doors and foster deeper relationships with underserved parts of their communities, the release said.

“The Museums for All initiative represents a long stride toward our goal of reaching more children and parents, by removing the financial barrier that still exists for so many,” explains Sarah Hughes, Virgin Island Children’s Museum’s executive director. “Since the inception of the museum, we have wanted to make this happen. We are so grateful to the Princess Cruises Community Foundation and all the folks at CFVI who brought us together. The community of the Virgin Islands is a better place for their commitment.”

Beginning June 29, families will be able to visit the Virgin Islands Children’s Museum for only $2.00 per person – regular admission is $8.00 per person – with the presentation of a valid SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, according to the release. Families may pre-register for the program by visiting the Virgin Islands Children’s Museum website: www.vichildrensmuseum.org/museums-for-all.

This program is made possible through the support of Princess Cruises Community Foundation and the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI), who are jointly committed to improving the lives of all Virgin Islanders. “We are proud to support the wonderful work of the Virgin Islands Children’s Museum and are particularly excited about the Museums for All program, which makes these fun and educational experiences accessible to even more children and families,” said CFVI President Dee Baecher-Brown.

As a fixture in the community for 27 years with an extensive network of donors, grantees and partners, CFVI oversees more than $3 million in annual grants, awards and scholarships to enhance the educational, physical, social, cultural and environmental well-being of the children, youth, and families of the Virgin Islands.
