Update: Government offices and summer camps in the St. Thomas-St. John District are closed as well, according to an update provided by Governor Mapp.
Original Post: Due to the potential impact of the tropical wave associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl, all nonessential government employees on the island of St. Croix have been instructed to remain home on Monday, Government House announced this morning. Additionally, summer school sessions on St. Croix will not operate today.
Governor Kenneth Mapp reported that the wave is expected to bring torrential rainfall and strong gusty winds today, keeping in line with the National Hurricane Center’s report. Therefore, employees have been asked to stay at home in the interest of public safety.
All residents are encouraged to remain indoors, operate vehicles only if absolutely necessary, and continue to monitor the weather, Government House said.
All first responders and employees who work on the territory’s infrastructure at the Department of Public Works, Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority, Virgin Islands Department of Planning and Natural Resources, Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority, and the Department of Health must report for duty, according to Government House.
The government said it will continue to monitor weather conditions and update the community accordingly.
On St. Thomas and St. John, government employees are requested to report to work as usual.
