In a special meeting Friday, the governing board of the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority approved an engineering services contract aimed at commencing the restoration of the utility’s East End Substation on St. Thomas, WAPA has announced.
A $359,000 contract was approved for FX Bonnes to provide engineering design services for the hurricane-damaged substation. The facility has been off-line since the 2017 hurricanes due to major damage to its switchgear. The project is a storm-related reimbursable expense from FEMA.
In other action, the board approved the addition of the authority’s Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer as signatories on WAPA accounts at First Bank and Banco Popular.
Board members participating in the meeting included Chair Elizabeth Armstrong, Vice Chair Hubert Turnbull, Secretary Juanita Young, Commissioner Devin Carrington, Director Marvin Pickering, Noel Loftus, Cheryl Boynes Jackson and Gerald T. Groner, Esq. Commissioner Nelson Petty, Jr. was excused.
