ST. THOMAS — A fight between two parents at the Ulla F. Muller Elementary School on Thursday morning ended with one of the parents being stabbed in the shoulder, V.I.P.D. Commissioner Delroy Richards confirmed to The Consortium Friday morning.
“There was an altercation outside the school between two parents. The altercation led to one of the parents receiving a stab wound injury to her shoulder. A knife was involved, and that particular parent was charged third-degree assault and the other parent refused medical attention for the injury she sustained,” Mr. Richards said.
The suspect, 23-year-old Josaira Augustin Romero, was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections after failing to make bail of $25,000, according to Mr. Richards. The commissioner said the incident occurred about 7:45 a.m.
The Department of Education issued a statement on the scuffle, revealing that while no students were injured, the school was temporarily placed on lockdown.
“Students were present during the time of the altercation. With the swift mobilization of the school monitor, administrators, teachers, and school staff, students were quickly ushered to their classrooms. The school was then placed on a brief lockdown,” D.O.E. said. “No students were hurt as a result of the altercation.”
D.O.E. said St. Thomas-St. John District counseling officials will be on site to assess the needs of students and/or staff affected by the incident.
