Parades To Commemorate World War I And Honor Past and Present JROTC Instructors Set For Weekend

News / Virgin Islands / November 7, 2018

As a part of Veterans Day activities celebrated throughout the territory annually, the Virgin Islands will take part in the nation-wide commemoration of the centennial of the Armistice that ended the First World War, Government House announced Wednesday. The parades will honor the 4.7 million Americans have served in World War I and all Americans who served before and since this conflict.

In addition, past and present Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) Instructors will be honored as a part of the parades, according to the release. JROTC Instructors in the territory have mentored, coached and trained high school students from as far back as the mid 80’s here in the Virgin Islands. Every single day of the school year they set out to accomplish their mission “To Motivate Young People to be Better Citizens.” “It is definitely an honor to recognize these two distinguished group of individuals who have invested so much of themselves”, said Veterans Affairs Director Patrick Farrell.

The 2018 Veterans Day parades in the territory are scheduled as follows: Saturday, November 10 at 2:30 pm, Cruz Bay St. John; Sunday, November 11 at 9:00 a.m. in Christiansted St. Croix (Kingstreet); and Sunday, November 11 at 3:00 p.m. in St. Thomas on Veterans Drive.

Any visiting military or para-military organizations wishing to be a part of the parade in either district may do so by first contacting the VI Office of Veterans Affairs.
