ST. THOMAS — Point Pleasant Resort has announced its grand reopening scheduled for December 17, with hurricane repairs completed and a sparkling new property to show for it, according to a release issued Wednesday.
The resort also will be under new management headed by Jahmed Mills, the hotel’s new general manager, the release said. Mr. Mills grew up on St. Thomas and was educated at UVI with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and financial management, and a master’s of business administration in accounting and financial management. Mr. Mills began his career in the hotel industry at Frenchman’s Reef and comes to Point Pleasant after serving since 2016 as the general manager of French Leave Resort on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas, the release said.
In his position as general manager at French Leave Resort, a boutique property and member of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, Mr. Mills was responsible for all aspects of hotel operations. The resort and Mr. Mills’s leadership were honored this year after being nominated for a prestigious Conde Nast Reader’s Choice Award for best resort, according to the release.
Mr. Mills’s goal is to bring the same extraordinary level of personal service to every guest at Point Pleasant Resort, to ensure that their St. Thomas experience is an unforgettable one.
“At French Leave Resort we placed a personal spin on Resort experience, making each stay anything but routine,” he said. “We connected our guests to what’s new, inventive and original. This type of service culture is what separates good resorts from the best resorts.”
Mr. Mills also plans to make Point Pleasant a go-to place for meetings, weddings, and other events.
“As anyone who has been to Point Pleasant knows, we have million-dollar views at every turn and great spaces for events,” Mr. Mills added. “Mirador (the former Agave restaurant space) and Shoreline Bar and Grille (the former Fungi’s space) have all been renovated and will offer outstanding food and service—and our million-dollar views–for meetings, receptions, and weddings. For outdoor weddings and receptions we also will be offering our intimate gazebo and our pool, both of which offer panoramic down-island views.”
Point Pleasant Resort is offering a pre-opening locals rate until December 17 while the finishing touches are being put on the property, according to the release.
“We want our local friends and neighbors to come to the resort and invite their friends and families as well. We are ready now to show them some “one love” service at our unique, romantic, and friendly 4-star property,” Mr. Mills said.
