VIPC Returns Wednesday Night With Governor-Elect Bryan As First Guest

Featured / News / Top Stories / VIPC / Virgin Islands / November 30, 2018

The Virgin Islands Political Consortium, an online broadcast program where VI Consortium’s Ernice Gilbert and Ashley Scotland interviews special guests, will continue from where it left off with some high-profile interviews, the first being Governor-elect Albert Bryan. The interview will start at 7:00 p.m. and last for an hour.

Mr. Bryan, who on Wednesday addressed the territory to give an update on the status of his transition to leadership, should have much to share on the team’s progress.

Mr. Gilbert said he planned on asking the governor-elect about his strategy to combat crime following the wave of homicides that have affected the territory in recent times, including a shootout Thursday night on St. Croix that left two dead and 5 wounded. With V.I.P.D. Commissioner Delroy Richards openly talking about his retirement, Virgin Islanders should expect a new police commissioner under the Bryan administration. It remains to be seen whether Mr. Gilbert will ask the governor-elect about his choice for the position.

“There’s always excitement when a new administration is taking office; a wave of new faces accompany the changing of guard,” Mr. Gilbert said. “I’m sure Virgin Islanders want to know the folks who will be filling important positions, and I’m hopeful Mr. Bryan will be gracious enough to share a few names with us.”

During the Wednesday press conference, Mr. Bryan said there would most likely be some Mapp administration cabinet members who will serve in his administration. “We’ve actually submitted those names as well to the transition team for them to look at,” Mr. Bryan said. “As you would imagine, anybody whose already in the position has a greater advantage because they’re already familiar with what they’re dealing with, so I’m sure, I’m pretty positive as the vetting process is complete, that you will see some names remain on the cabinet level.”
