ST. CROIX — Rachelle JnBaptiste on Sunday night won the 2018-19 Crucian Christmas Festival Queen competition, beating outscoring her competitor, Patrice Shannon, in every category — both judged and non-judged segments of the show. The event was held at the Divi Carina Bay Ballroom.
Produced by Jason Gardener, who is serving his second year as chairperson of the queen show competition, the event was a well-executed affair that managed two be exciting and intimate at the same time. The decor, as has come to be expected from Mr. Gardener and his team, was exceptional.
The show had four segments — swimsuit, talent, evening gown and question and answer. In every category, Ms. JnBaptiste proved to be victorious, using her unmistakable confidence and poise to deliver stunning performances that rapt those in attendance.
Following her victory, Ms. JnBaptiste said her win meant that “I am becoming the woman that I always wanted to be, and I’m standing before you as your queen. And again, I’m starting my job tomorrow bright and early.” Ms. JnBaptiste intends to have an active reign as Miss. St. Croix. She said the victory should also serve to build confidence and self esteem in those who struggle with their imperfections.
She was crowned by former queen Shanisa Emmanuel and Mr. Gardener. Her main reward was $5,000 cash, among other items. Ms. Shannon was rewarded with $2,500 and other items for her participation.
Mr. Gardener said it was hard to get young ladies to participate in this year’s competition, and that he would commence the search for the 2019-2020 show much earlier.
Miss St. Croix will represent the island at a number of events and participate in a host of community-oriented functions.
