Final 32nd Legislature Senate Session Set For Friday At 9:00 a.m.

The final session of the 32nd Legislature, originally scheduled for last Friday, will commence at the Earl B. Ottley Legislative Hall on Friday at 9:00 a.m., the office of Senate President Myron Jackson has made known via release.

The Senate is expected to take action on a number of measures, among them Senator Positive Nelson’s medicinal marijuana legislation, which in recent times has gained favor among a majority of lawmakers, and is expected to win approval during the Friday session. If the measure passes, it will be forwarded to Governor Kenneth Mapp, who is expected to sign the legislation into law, and would be among Mr. Mapp’s last actions before leaving office on January 7.

Also scheduled for the Friday session is a St. Thomas-St. John perma-plaque ceremony and staff recognition event. Honorees of the ceremony include Allen Haynes, Sr.; Ms. Lorna Lenise Freeman; All Hands and Hearts, and the Family Resource Center. Outgoing Senators Jean Forde, Janette Millin-Young, Tregenza A. Roach, and Brian A. Smith, and retirees Carol Crooke, Beatrice Fleming, Sharon Turnbull, Desiree Francis, and Arnold Samuel will also be recognized, the release said.
