ST. CROIX — V.I.P.D. officers with the Special Operations Bureau on Tuesday arrested an individual with an illegal firearm during a traffic stop, after it was noticed that the vehicle this individual was operating did not have a registration sticker on it, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.
According to the release, the stop took place at approximately 5:07 p.m. on the Queen Mary Highway in the vicinity of the Sunny Isle Shopping Center on Tuesday.
Contact was made with the driver of the vehicle, who was later identified as Ukimby Tequan Trey Greaux. According to police, Mr. Greaux could not provide the officers with proof of registration. The officers then asked Mr. Greaux if he had anything illegal in his vehicle, to which he said no, but admitted that he had smoked marijuana and could possibly have remnants of the drug in the vehicle. The V.I.P.D. did not provide a description of the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle revealed that there was a loaded revolver and six extra rounds inside, the V.I.P.D. release said. The investigation also disclosed that Mr. Greaux was not authorized to carry or possess a firearm in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Mr. Greaux was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, and was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending his advisement hearing after failing to make bail of $25,000.
