Update: The V.I.P.D. said today that the suspect was arrested without incident.

Original Story: ST. CROIX — The Virgin Islands Police Department is seeking the community’s assistance in finding a man it said may be armed and dangerous, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced. The man, identified as 34-year-old Asheem Gregory Charles, who goes by the moniker “Kartel”, is wanted for assault (police did not provide details of the assault).

Mr. Charles is said to be 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 170 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes, a light complexion, and a scar on his cheek under his left eye, according to the V.I.P.D. The release said Mr. Charles’s last seen hairstyle was mop-top, and might be dyed in either blond or its original black color. The suspect is said to frequent Sion Farm, Peter’s Rest and the Christiansted town, according to police.

The V.I.P.D. said. Mr. Charles may be armed and dangerous, and therefore discouraged residents from approaching him. Instead, residents who come in contact with. Mr. Charles are encouraged to call the V.I.P.D.’s Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-778-2211, or reach Crime Stoppers USVI here.
