Man Arrested On Animal Cruelty Charges After Dogs Were Found Tied Up, Dead In Yard. Another Was Found Malnourished.

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / February 14, 2019

ST. CROIX — Police on Tuesday morning arrested a man on multiple animal cruelty charges after dogs in his care were found dead in his yard, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced Wednesday.

The animal cruelty incident was first reported on March 13, 2018, according to Mr. Dratte, when officers were notified of a foul odor coming from a home in Estate Union Mount Washington. Upon arrival to the area, two dead dogs were discovered on suspect Alfred John’s property and another dog was found on the verge of dying, according to police. Mr. Dratte said all three dogs were tied to abandoned cars in an open field with no food, water or shelter for a long period of time.

Mr. John was charged with second-degree animal abuse, and first and second-degree animal neglect.

Mr. John was released of his recognizance, which means while he was allowed to walk, he most likely signed a written promise to appear before the court to face charges.
