The Virgin Islands Police Department is partnering with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (B.M.V.) to commence stronger enforcement of vehicles that are not registered but are being used, along with drivers in the territory who are not licensed. That’s according to a B.M.V. release issued Tuesday, which failed to elaborate on the initiative.
To be successful with the plan, the V.I.P.D. would have to initiate increased traffic stops of vehicles noticed to be unregistered.
In the release, B.M.V. Director Nominee, Barbara Mcintosh, reminded Virgin Islanders that vehicles must be registered with the bureau to be legal on the territory’s roads.
“All affected persons and businesses are mandated to register their vehicles in the Virgin Islands and obtain a VI driver’s license if applicable,” read the release. “The general public is encouraged to follow the laws of the Virgin Islands and come into the bureau to avoid facing fines when the Police Department begin their increased enforcement.”
