Senator Donastorg isn’t ready to accept that he was defeated by Delegate to Congress Donna Christensen in the Democratic Primary last Saturday, however no reasons were given explaining the decision.
We reached out to Donastorg but hadn’t a response in time for this publishing, however running mate Angel Torres gave a brief comment to the media, saying that the team wasn’t ready to concede.
“We are not conceding yet,” Torres said. “No further comment.”
The Donastorg team posted a message on Facebook, however, thanking friends and family for their support and giving no hints of a team not willing to concede.
“We would like to sincerely extend a heartfelt Thank You to our families, friends, and especially to you – our many supporters who truly believe that we are the change that the Virgin Islands needs, our many supporters who believe that there can still be hope for our islands, and our many supporters who showed that neither rain nor storm could stop our movement,” the post reads. “For this, we are eternally grateful to all of you. Let us never waver on our commitment we made to each other to turn our Virgin Islands into a peaceful and prosperous Paradise. Thank you all for your love, support, and prayers. May God Bless all of you on this blessed Sunday and may God Bless the Virgin Islands.”
Saturday’s final tally saw Christensen collecting 3,016 votes, which equates to 35.18 percent of all votes, while Senator Donastorg garnered 2,083 votes, representing 24.30 percent of Saturday’s Democratic Gubernatorial election, according to official numbers.
We’ve reached out again to the Senator and will update this post if he responds.
