Female Bystander Airlifted To Florida After Being Shot During Shooting In Red Brick; Another Man Shot During Same Incident

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / February 26, 2019

ST. CROIX — A woman who V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte said had nothing to do with a shooting that occurred in Red Brick Sunday night, was airlifted to the Florida Memorial Hospital after being shot during the incident.

Mr. Dratte said concerned residents called the 911 emergency call center at approximately 7:04 p.m. Sunday, reporting repeated discharging of shots coming from a white Malibu Chevrolet sedan in the D. Hamilton Jackson Terrace housing community, also called Red Brick. The shooting was said to be aimed at an individual running in the vicinity of building 2 of the housing community, Mr. Dratte said, quoting the police report.

When police arrived on the scene, they discovered that two individuals had been shot, a male and female. Mr. Dratte said the male individual sustained minor injuries and was treated at the Juan F. Luis Hospital and released.

The female victim, however, sustained injuries to the lower torso and the leg, which severed a major artery. She was airlifted later that evening to the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami Florida, Mr. Dratte said.

Mr. Dratte said the incident as of Monday was under investigation by the V.I.P.D.’s Criminal Investigation Bureau. Police are asking anyone with information to call C.I.B. at 340 778 2211, Crime Stoppers USVI here, or 911.
