Six Virgin Islands High School Graduates Awarded Scholarships By Innovative

News / Virgin Islands / August 8, 2014

Six scholarships have been awarded to Virgin Islands students by Innovative, the company has made known through a statement. Above, scholarship winner Debbie Bermudez.

The scholarships, all one-time, were in the amounts of $5,000 and $10,000, four of the former and two of the latter.

Said Jennifer Matarangas-King, vice president of public relations and governmental affairs for the Innovative Companies:

“Over the last four years, Innovative has bestowed over $240,000 in college scholarships to talented Virgin Islands high school graduates. Further, we are committed to providing $100,000 to UVI for scholarships over the next five years as we continue to work closely to support the territory’s only university and one of our strategic partners in the development of the Virgin Islands workforce.

“The Innovative Companies are proud of our scholarship recipients and we wish them all the best as they pursue their academic endeavors. We are pleased to be able to provide substantial financial assistance that will help take them one step closer to their academic and career goals.”

The two students who received the scholarships of $10,000 were Arthur Williams Jr. and Denzel Clifton, while Debbie Bermudez from Central High School and Kristina Diaz from St. Joseph Catholic School were awarded with the $5,000 scholarships. Kaunda Williams and Blairanna Glasford — both from Charlotte Amalie High School also received scholarships of $5,000 each to pursue Business Administration at the University of the Virgin Islands.

Correction: A prior version of this article stated that only St. Croix students had been awarded scholarships by Innovative. It was an error, as students from St. Thomas and St. Croix were awarded scholarships from Innovative. The article as been updated to represent the correct information.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
