20-Year-Old Man Arrested After Choking Female Acquaintance Until She Couldn’t Breathe

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / March 25, 2019

ST. CROIX — A 20-year-old Barren Spot man named Alexander St. Rose, seen above, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault after choking a female acquaintance until she could no longer breathe, with the woman resorting to biting the suspect so he could let go of her.

That’s according to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte, who said in a release that the incident occurred on Sunday night at about 7:44 p.m. at the Animal Shelter in La Grande Princesse.

Upon officers’ arrival to the scene, they observed that the female victim had sustained swollen marks to her face and a small scratch to the neck, Mr. Dratte said. The victim said Mr. St. Rose held her by the neck and shook her until she could no longer breathe, and that she had to bite Mr. St. Rose until he released her.

No bail was granted to Mr. St. Rose as per the territory’s domestic violence laws, and he was remanded to the Golden Grove Correctional Facility pending his advisement hearing.
