St. Croix Man Arrested For Conspiracy And Possession With Intent To Distribute Cocaine

Jakwan Sweeney, 21, of St. Croix was arrested Wednesday on an indictment charging him with conspiracy and possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, United States Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert announced. Sweeney made his initial appearance before Magistrate Judge Ruth Miller and was detained pending further proceedings on March 29, 2019.

According to the indictment, between August 1 and September 24, 2018, Sweeney conspired to possess with the intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine.

If convicted of conspiracy or possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, Sweeney faces a term of imprisonment of not less than ten years and not more than life and a fine of $10,000,000.00.

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) investigated this matter and the case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sigrid M. Tejo-Sprotte.
