ST. THOMAS — A 20-year-old St. Thomas man was arrested and jailed pending his advisement hearing after cutting a female acquaintance with a broken bottle, V.I.P.D. Public Information Glen Dratte has announced.
The incident occurred on Sunday about 10:30 a.m., with police being notified by the 911 emergency call center. Officers who were dispatched to the scene arrived to the location, Estate Altona, soon after and met with the victim.
She said the suspect, identified as Eliandro Tolentino Martinez, above, first came to her residence at 3:00 a.m. Sunday, and forced his way inside after she had opened the door. A verbal altercation ensued, which prompted the victim’s neighbor to intervene. At that point, Mr. Martinez took the victim’s phone and left the area.
Later the same morning, Mr. Martinez returned to the victim’s residence and proceeded to verbally abuse her, according to Mr. Dratte. During the altercation, Mr. Martinez retrieved a bottle, broke it against a table and cut the victim’s right arm with it, according to the police report.
V.I.P.D. Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, Celvin Walwyn, stated, “I am in full support of all efforts to reduce domestic violence in the territory. There is no justification for DV Crimes.”
