McDonald’s Lockhart Gardens Employee Assaulted By Woman

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / April 16, 2019

ST. THOMAS — An employee of the McDonald’s branch in Lockhart Gardens was assaulted by another woman who went into the restaurant and struck the victim in the left eye, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.

The incident occurred at about 8:48 a.m. Monday. According to the police report, the suspect, identified as Nia Simmonds, 19, pulled up in the restaurant’s drive thru with a minor in the vehicle. She placed an order, but the McDonald’s employee told Ms. Simmonds that she would have to come into the restaurant to collect the remainder of her order. The police report did not explain why that was necessary, but in certain instances employees ask customers to momentarily pull aside if a big order is being prepared and a long line of customers has formed. The release did not make clear what exactly occurred.

Ms. Simmonds entered the restaurant and eventually struck the victim in her left eye causing an orbital fracture and contusion. According to Mr. Dratte, there has been ongoing bad blood between the victim’s family and Ms. Simmonds.

At about 6:30 p.m. Monday, Ms. Simmonds was arrested and charged with third-degree assault. Unable to make bail of $25,000, she was then remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending her advisement hearing.
