Man Shot To Death In St. Thomas

ST. THOMAS — The territory’s homicide count for 2019 climbed to 12 following a shooting incident in Contant, St. Thomas that left a 37-year-old man dead, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.

The incident, which occurred at about 10:12 p.m., was first reported as shots fired in Contant. Shortly after, another resident called 911 reporting that a man had been shot and was rushed to the Schneider Regional Medical Center.

Police made their way to the hospital, but the victim — after efforts of the medical staff to save him failed — succumbed to the gunshot wounds at approximately 10:51 p.m., according to Mr. Dratte.

The victim was identified by next of kin as 37-year-old Hector Castano Estrella, Jr.

Mr. Dratte said the incident is being investigated by the V.I.P.D.’s Major Crimes Unit. The police force is asking anyone with information about the incident to call 340-774-2211 or 911. You may also contact Crime Stoppers USVI with an anonymous tip here.
