Police Identify Body Found Floating In Cruz Bay In March

News / Virgin Islands / April 26, 2019

ST. JOHN — The Virgin Islands Police Department has identified the body of a man found in Cruz Bay waters near the National Park Visitors Center in March.

V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte said the body was identified by family members at the Schneider Regional Medical Center on Tuesday at approximately 3:20 p.m. as 49-year-old Andrew Dott, Jr., a Caucasian male from Atlanta, Georgia.

The body was found at about 6:17 a.m. on March 21, Mr. Dratte said in the V.I.P.D.’s initial release. The body was brought to shore by members of St. John Rescue.

What remains unclear is the cause of death. In the March 21 release, Mr. Dratte said, “The cause of death is unknown pending a medical examiner’s finding. We are presently talking to residents, hotels and canvassing the community to find information on anyone missing.”

In Thursday’s release, however, an update on the investigation’s status was not provided.
