UPDATE: The V.I.P.D. has revealed the identity of the victims: Bernard Matthew, 28 and passenger Derrick Liburd, 28.

ORIGINAL STORY: ST. CROIX — Two men both age 28 died during a car accident on Friday night near Limetree Bay’s entrance close to the facility’s main administrative building, police have confirmed. The single-vehicle accident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. The 911 emergency call center was notified at about 11:35 p.m.

According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte, the vehicle, what appeared to be a white Toyota Yaris, was speeding heading west on the Hess Road and passing vehicles on the stretch. The driver then lost control at the turn near the Limetree Bay main building, impacting the wall, then the large boulders which caused the vehicle to flip and catch on fire.

The young men were burned alive as they were trapped in the vehicle, according to Mr. Dratte, citing information provided in the police report.

Police have withheld the victims’ identity pending next of kin notification.

A car accident near Limetree Bay’s administrative building entrance left two young men dead.
