ST. JOHN — The Virgin Islands Police Department said Thursday that a mentally ill man on Wednesday took a metal object and damaged 30 vehicles in the St. John Marketplace parking lot.
According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte, the 911 emergency call center received notification of a disturbance in the shopping and professional center’s parking lot Wednesday and immediately dispatched officers to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a male individual, identified as 23-year-old Jahkoy Bolques, who police confirmed to be a local mentally ill patient. Mr. Bolques had an episode of decompensation in the vicinity of the super market and proceeded to damage approximately 30 vehicles with a metal object.
The officers arrested Mr. Bolques without incident and charged him with multiple counts of damage to vehicle, delaying and obstructing, and disturbance of the peace. He was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment, Mr. Dratte said.
A V.I.P.D. preliminary investigation revealed that Mr. Bolques was an employee of Starfish Market, a supermarket in the shopping center. He reported to work an hour early and started to act irrationally.
