ST. THOMAS — A man was shot in the back in St. Thomas while walking near a cemetery Thursday night, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.
According to police, at approximately 10:22 p.m. Thursday, the 911 emergency call center received notification of a gunshot victim near the Chicken Fry Restaurant in Kronprindsens Gade. Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene to investigate.
The victim was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment. Officers traveled to the medical center to meet with the victim.
The victim told police that he was walking eastward on the sidewalk of the Jewish Cemetery, which is located adjacent to the Western Cemetery, when he saw a vehicle heading east. As the vehicle passed, multiple gunshots were fired at the victim, striking him once in the back.
Mr. Dratte said the case is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Residents with information about the shooting are asked to call CIB at 340-774-2211, or Crime Stoppers USVI here.
