African Attire Highly Recommended For ‘Daylicate’, A New Kind Of Party On St. Croix

News / July 12, 2019

When St. Croix promoter Ivor Chiverton told people he was interested in introducing a different kind of party event on St. Croix, he was met with doubting responses. Mr. Chiverton, however, decided to push forward anyway, having gotten inspiration from events experienced in Florida and on the Uber Soca Cruise.

On May 12, Mr. Chiverton hosted the social, which was called Daylicate: The Glitz and Glamour Sunset Party. The event, held at the Caribbean Museum for the Arts in Frederiksted, which this reporter attended, was slated to start at 4:00 p.m. and end at 11:00 p.m. At the entrance, beautiful women greeted participants and verified access. Once inside, a photographer led interested parties to an area to take high quality photos. From there, with my VIP class access, I was led to the upper level of the museum to a table, passing stunningly adorned women and men, where I sat with a companion, enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and champagne, and listened to music from deejays and live performances.

The event was hailed as a success, according to a post on Mr. Chiverton’s Facebook page. In comments provided to The Consortium today, he said, “The inspiration came from attending different daytime parties in Miami and on Uber Soca Cruise. I wanted to bring a different type of vibe to St. Croix and to the party scene. I felt we needed something different and was willing to give it a try. Many people told me it wouldn’t work on St. Croix, but I thought why not? So far the vibe has been good, the feedback has been amazing and it’s starting to get people’s attention.”

Mr. Chiverton revealed that there was a wedding proposal at the first event, and that a number of promoters held similar affairs following the success of Daylicate. “So the party scene is getting introduced more and more to the daytime events,” he said. Mr. Chiverton, who runs Majestic Entertainment, plans on hosting a variety of similar daytime events in the future with a wide range of themes.

The latest affair is called Daylicate: African Expressions Sunset Party. “Come out and embrace your culture in Freedom City. African attire is highly recommended for this fantastic event,” reads the flyer. Daylicate: African Expressions is set for Sunday at the Caribbean Museum from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Featured entertainment includes Guardians of Culture Moko Jumbies, DJ Colibri, Big Kat Sounds, Selecta Jeaucar and Felix London.
