ST. CROIX — Two men were injured at the Cool Out Bar in Peter’s Rest during a late night shootout on Friday, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte made known via release late Saturday.

According to Mr. Dratte, at about 10:22 p.m. Friday the 911 emergency call center dispatched two units to the bar following a discharging of shots report.

Upon arrival to the scene, police made contact with a Hispanic male who had sustained a gunshot wound to the right side of his chest. Police said a firearm was also found on the victim. He was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment and was said to be in stable condition.

A second victim was transported to J.F.L. with a gunshot wound on his hand. He was treated and released, according to Mr. Dratte.

Mr. Dratte said 70 spent shell casings were found on the scene. Also found was a 9mn handgun with a live chambered round, along with an empty magazine. Additionally, three vehicles were damaged by bullets in the parking lot.

Mr. Dratte said the incident remains under active investigation by the V.I.P.D.’s Criminal Investigation Bureau.
