Ottley To Continue On Indefinitely As West Indian Co. CEO And President

News / Tourism / Virgin Islands / July 22, 2019

ST. THOMAS — Anthony Ottley will continue on as interim CEO and president of the West Indian Co. Limited for the foreseeable future, WICO board chairman Joseph Boschulte said Monday.

The search has not yet begun for a permanent replacement for former CEO Clifford Graham, who was abruptly fired by the board in June. Mr. Graham was let go after reportedly signing letters of intent with cruise ship operators to participate in the proposed Long Bay Landing project along St. Thomas’ downtown waterfront area. The board had specifically instructed Graham not to enter the agreement.

“The search hasn’t begun yet,” Mr. Boschulte said. “I imagine something will happen in the coming weeks, months.”

With Mr. Ottley on hand, there is no apparent urgency to finding a long-term replacement for Mr. Graham. The board has yet to decide whether the position will be fiilled internally, or if the board will search outside of WICO for job candidates.. “A decision hasn’t been made yet by the board about how wide a net to cast. It’s something that will be discussed probably in the next board meeting.”

The Long Bay Landing proposal was shelved during Governor Kenneth Mapp’s tenure. It is being revived Gov. Albert Bryan, who identified the project as another major area of development for tourism in the territory.
Mr. Ottley was WICO director of property management before stepping up for the interim post.
