Personnel and system engineers are continuing efforts to restart various generating units at the Randolph Harley power plant in order to begin restoration of service to customers that have been affected by a major electrical service interruption, WAPA said in a 6:00 a.m. alert today.
The district wide service outage has affected the islands of St. Thomas, St. John, Water Island, and Hassel Island since approximately 1:20 a.m.
WAPA said personnel have experienced some setbacks in their ability to restart the units. At one point, attempts were being made to restore service, however, those were not successful. Work is continuing at the plant and additional updates wll be provided.
The outage is one of a number of service interruptions WAPA has experienced in the past week. On Wednesday, the Public Services Commission will decide whether to grant the authority another base rate increase. Residents will be on site at the PSC in the Barbel Plaza protesting the proposed increase.
