VI Fire Service Raising Funds To Help Firefighter Injured During Sunday Night Shooting At Fort Frederik Beach

News / Virgin Islands / August 1, 2019

ST. CROIX — On Sunday, veteran firefighter Rhydel Robinson sustained multiple gunshot wounds while at Fort Frederik Beach during the Floatopia event.

Due to the nature of his injuries, Mr. Robinson was airlifted to a hospital on the mainland for medical treatment.

To help offset the costs of medical care and other expenses, the Virgin Islands Fire Service will be holding boot drives on St. Croix from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Five Corners, the Christiansted Bypass, and the intersection at Hannah’s Rest/Mars Hill in Frederiksted.

V.I. Fire Service Director Daryl A. George urged the public to support the fundraisers.

“The men and women of the Fire Service are coming together as a family to assist their brother in his time of need, and we are asking the community to support our efforts,” he said.

Mr. George also asked that the community keep Mr. Robinson and his family in their prayers.
