Patients may have to wait longer than usual at the Schneider Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Room because of emergency repairs, SRMC announced Friday. The work is underway and is expected to continue through Monday, August 19.
“We encourage anyone who does not need urgent or emergency care to consider visiting with your private physician or an outpatient service provider while he Emergency Room is undergoing repairs,” according to a written statement from hospital CEO Bernard A. Wheatley. “We are confident the repairs will be completed within the scheduled timeline.”
According to the hospital, all other services and inpatient areas of the facility will remain fully operational.
Schneider Hospital was hard-hit by hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. Assessors determined last year that the 47 percent of the hospital’s total structure was hurricane-damaged, just below that 51 percent threshold that would trigger a federally funded total of the hospital.
