Five Masked, Armed Men Rob Sports Bar In St. Thomas, Assault Victim

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / August 15, 2019

ST. THOMAS — Five armed, masked men descended on the Galaxy Sports Bar in Smith Bay on Tuesday night, robbing the patrons inside, assaulting a victim who refused to obey orders, and looting the bar’s cash register, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Karl Caesar has announced.

The 911 call notifying law enforcement of the incident came in to police at 11:39 p.m. Patrol officers along with Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives, and crime scene technicians responded to the scene.

Upon arrival to the location, the offices were told by multiple victims that five masked and armed individuals entered the bar and ordered everyone to get down on the floor, Mr. Caesar said. The suspects began to take cash from the occupants and then proceeded to empty the bar’s cash register of its contents.

Witnesses said they observed as one victim who refused to obey the robbers’ demands was assaulted with a weapon by striking the victim several times. The assault resulted in a laceration to the head area. The robbers then exited the premises with an undisclosed amount of cash from the victims and the business.

The assaulted victim was treated for injuries by emergency personnel on site and released.

Mr. Caesar said the case has been classified as a first-degree robbery incident, and is presently under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
