DLCA Issued Warnings and Citations To Vendor’s Plaza Merchants, But Doors Are Open For Constructive Vendor Input

Community Center / News / Virgin Islands / August 21, 2019

Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs (DLCA) enforcement agents have issued warnings and citations to merchants at Vendor’s Plaza that failed to conform to the rules and regulations regarding the upkeep and appearance of vendors sites.

According to a press release recounting site visit, DLC Commissioner Designee Richard Evangelista discovered that a number of vendors want to propose their own amendments to the existing rules and regulations.  “Some of the rules and regulations are outdated and we wish to propose some amendments that will accomplish the same goal but in a more lenient manner,” said a group of vendors.

In response, DLCA has scheduled a town hall meeting for 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4 at Emancipation Garden.

“I am inviting the general public to attend and offer suggestions since the Vendors Plaza exists for both residents and tourists alike to visit and shop.” said Mr. Evangelista “I look forward to continuing the ongoing conversation with the authorized permitted vendors.  Together, we can create a Vendors Plaza that the United States Virgin Islands will be proud of.”

DLCA hosted a townhall meeting with the Vendors Plaza merchants two weeks ago. The department was harsh in its criticism of the Vendor’s Plaza appearance after the meeting in early August.

In yesterday’s release, Mr. Evangelista praised most of the merchants at Vendors Plaza for the tidiness of the Plaza since August 6th site visit.

Consumers or Merchants with questions may contact the Office of the Commissioner on St. Croix at (340) 713-3522; St. Thomas at (340) 714-3522; or on St. John at (340) 693-8036. For consumer related issues you may email us at [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>
