Two Shot, 1 Dead On Seventh Day Street In St. Thomas Near Church; Parishioners Not Injured

Breaking News / News / Virgin Islands / August 24, 2019

ST. THOMAS — A man and a 15-year-old minor were shot on Seventh Day Street in St. Thomas this morning, with the adult male succumbing to his injuries, The Consortium has learned. V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte confirmed the incident, and said the shooting occurred at roughly 10:00 a.m. Police said the victim who survived was shot twice in the lower body.

According to Mr. Dratte, a black Nissan sedan carrying four individuals paused on Seventh Day Street waiting for the deceased victim’s vehicle to approach the area. As the victim’s vehicle came closer, one of the men in the Nissan sedan exited and opened fire aimed at the man and the minor in the approaching vehicle.

A church service in the area was ongoing when the incident occurred, Mr. Dratte said. However no one was injured aside from the individuals whose vehicle was fired upon by the man who exited the Nissan sedan.

The deceased victim, whose identity Mr. Dratte did not provide because next of kin had not yet been notified, died on the scene. The injured passenger was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center.

The suspects were still at large as of 1:00 p.m. Mr. Dratte said an active manhunt was ongoing as of this morning.

Today’s homicide is the second in St. Thomas in three days. A man died Tuesday night after being shot in the neck.

This is a developing story…
